As in most instances nowadays, even weddings have not escaped the clutches of the ever-popular Instagram.

Into the World of Instagram

Instagram, a social media app that has swept the world by storm, has also reared its famed head into the wedding scene. These days, couples are not only plagued by wedding preparations and other matrimony-related stressors. They also need to think about one other thing: “Is it Instagram-worthy?”

From taking selfies to the more challenging groupfies, photos uploaded to this popular photo- and video-sharing site can get thousands of “hearts” and go around the world in just a matter of seconds.

Amazingly, Instagram has transformed itself into a mega-app that is used by a billion active users as of June 2018, according to Statista. This is an astounding rise from its estimated 800 million just a year ago.

Additionally, because of the visual nature of the app, there is also a high engagement rate. This is the reason why Instagram has become one of the leading social media marketing tools in today’s world. It has become so popular that as of March 2016, 98 percent of fashion brands have created their own Instagram profile.

Inside an Insta-Worthy Wedding

With these statistics in mind, it is no wonder that the wedding industry has also hitched on to the bandwagon. Not to be left behind, couples have factored in “Instagram-worthiness” when exploring wedding services or packages.

When planning weddings, lovebirds that are very much into the social scene want their weddings to be Insta-worthy. They browse through photos and videos in Instagram looking for inspiration for their own wedding. Some spend hours on the app poring over photos of celebrity weddings, going over wedding supplier profiles, and looking for that perfect ‘gram that they can also do for their own ceremony.

If you are one such couple that wants to be counted among the millions who have their union featured on this trendy app, then here are some simple tips to remember:

1. Make It Photogenic

Instagram is a visual app, so that means the more photogenic your shots are, the more likes they get.

When you want your wedding and its minute details to be Insta-worthy, make sure that your location or venue is ready. It should be well-lit and photographable. The setting should be picturesque or at the very least, appealing enough so your guests can have fun taking selfies, wefies, or groupfies.

Make sure to let your wedding planner know in advance that you want every nook and cranny to be “camera-ready.” This, of course, will go hand-in-hand with your theme and the budget you are willing to shell out.

If dressing up the whole venue to look like a pictorial set is a stretch, then you can opt to have a photo corner where you and your guests can have fun posing and snapping photos.

2. Make It Yours

However long you’ve spent poring over profile after profile on Instagram, the most important thing to think about is you. What do you and your partner want for your special day?

Many brides and grooms forget that their wedding day is a day to celebrate their love for each other – not simply a pictorial session. Some guests throw wedding etiquette out the window and take snaps of themselves at every pew or corner. Some may even become too engrossed that they keep snapping at everything – from the fancy flowers in a bouquet to even the most mundane details.

Expert wedding organizers agree that for your wedding to be as Insta-worthy as possible, make it uniquely yours. Don’t be a copycat. If you absolutely love a social influencer’s take on her wedding, then think of how to add a personal touch. Involve your partner and incorporate details that are meaningful to both of you.

For example, if you met on an island, then why not give away an island-themed sunblock spritzer for your guests? If you are both fans of Harry Potter, then maybe you can decorate your venue with chandeliers and “floating candles” reminiscent of the famed dining hall at Hogwarts.

Don’t forget that this is YOUR day. Make it interestingly yours. All else will follow.

3. Don’t Forget the Hashtag

After you have put your personal stamp on your celebrations, don’t forget to use a hashtag.

A hashtag used in social media sites like Instagram will allow you to keep track of photos taken on your special day. Along with making it personal, you and your other half should create a hashtag with a creative spin. For example, if your names are Yusef and Melissa, perhaps you can use the hashtag #YuGotMe.

It doesn’t have to be cheesy or romantic. It can be something that has meaning to both of you. Whatever your hashtag may be, make sure to inform all your guests too so the photos they take can all go to that one online receptacle. You can indicate it in the invitations, at the reception counter, or even at each table.

Have a Fabulous Day

It is fun to look at snapshots of your wedding day. It’s nice to see photos of you and your honey from the lens of your friends and family. However, do not forget to fully experience every minute. Enjoy the solemnity of exchanging vows with The One. Do not lose precious moments simply because you were too wrapped up in becoming Insta-worthy.

Get lost in each other’s eyes. Share laughter and happy tears with loved ones. Dance the night away with those closest to you. Don’t just snap pictures to remind you of this milestone. Be in that moment and have such a fabulous time that each detail will forever be etched in your memories.
